We are a major community among the Schedule Castes in West Bengal and used to be traditional cooks. We are closely related to communities like the Pod, Bagdi, Rajbansi, Namasudra, Tiyar, Dhoba, Kaora and Chamar. We are found mostly in Jaynagar. Interestingly, we never employ Brahmins for our priestly services.
